#Croydon MP Barwell wades into Parking Storm with both feet

So, the Tory MP for Croydon Central gangs up with Croydon Council against residents in North Croydon.
First he accuses the Council of running a shambolic consultation (my words), then he writes to constituents to tell them that the Council has listened.

In it, Gavin Barwell MP (Croydon Central) says "I am delighted to inform you that our lobbying has paid off - on Wednesday night, the Council's Traffic Management Committee decided not to proceed with the proposals (apart from in a few roads around Mayday Hospital where residents want something done)".

I am gob smacked! I've not yet found anyone who wants the draconian parking scheme introduced in their neighbourhood. Apparently Mr Barwell has knowledge not shared with either local councillors, the local MP (Malcolm Wicks) or anyone else!
How can you be 'delighted' at something that has so much local opposition? How can you use the phrase ''residents want something done' when you are elected for a different area and live in Croydon South?

An open challenge to Gavin Barwell MP: tell us who wants this scheme on their street. IF you cant, then I am calling on you to withdraw your letter immediately.

The Tory Council still has not listened to local people in the North of Croydon. It is time they did. Perhaps he could lobby them to be fair and transparent? Otherwise it looks suspiciously like Tory Councillors helping out only their own (Gavin ran Croydon Council before being elected as MP for Croydon Central in May 2010).
